Sometimes you can find a tax stamp but with those darker colored bottles it might be pretty hard to see. Not too familiar with the date range for this one unfortunately.

I believe Paddy is an Irish whiskey, haven’t had this particular one, but if he likes Irish whiskey I would probably stick with it, one of my absolute favorite Irish whiskeys is Yellow Spot, it’s aged 12 years, it’s a really amazing pour, one I think he might really like. I’d be more than happy if someone got that for me as a gift!

Would be rather hard to get a cost on it as it’s an independently bottled scotch from quite some time ago. Usually comes at a lower cost than actually bottled by the distillery, quick search and I came up with around € 330 or so I’d take that with a grain of salt though, no hard proof. None the less looks like an excellent bottle and one that should be drank and cherished.

Looks like corrosion to the metal. Alcohol is pretty powerful. Stick with the corks or screw tops that come with the bottles.

Jameson is a decent intro whiskey, but definitely used mostly for shots at the bar, unless you start getting into some of their higher end expressions. I would say try and seek out some American bourbons and even some scotch’s to see what you like, a good intro to bourbon would be something along the lines of Buffalo trace, four roses, michters and something for scotch I would recommend balvenie, Lagavulin or macallan to start. Also some good Irish whiskeys I like are from green spot and bushmill. See what flavor profiles you enjoy and you can start to explore the range if you find a distillery you enjoy. It’s all about experiencing each, and finding what you like, there is no right or wrong. It’s about what you enjoy, not so much what someone else enjoys. Blanton’s SFTB is not released in the states, it’s sent overseas for some odd reason. You can occasionally pick them up on thewhiskyexchange and they are well worth the cost, I’d say order two to keep shipping cost down, it’s incredible juice!

I think your at a point now that whiskey has gotten so expensive that I would probably say wait it out, this whiskey bubble will burst at some point over 20 years and you will be able to buy whiskey a lot cheaper than it is today. With that said, if you are hell bent on tracking something down and you absolutely love Rye, I would say go ahead and track down a bottle of Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye Aged 13 Years. It'll most likely cost you a pretty penny these days considering you'll most likely have to buy it on the secondary market but if there is any rye worthy of cracking when you finally retire, that's a mighty good one.
